Open-Source TODA Protocol · Tusculum Technology

Your supply chain needs proof, not promises.

TODA enables low-cost cryptographic digital files that travel with physical goods — proving authenticity, ownership, and chain of custody from manufacturer to end recipient. No blockchain complexity. No connectivity required. Tusculum uses the open-source TODA protocol to bring these capabilities to enterprise and government markets.

Customers need confirmation that goods received are genuine parts from acceptable sources.

Full shipping history from production to receipt — every step — for less than $1.00 per purchase.

Customs and regulators require tamper-evident confirmation of compliance with export regulations.

Digital files today cannot prove uniqueness, who created them, or who owns them — validity is trapped in decades-old rigid paradigms.

Blockchain-based solutions impose gas fees, server costs, and connectivity requirements that make high-volume, low-value tracking economically unviable.

How It Works

Provenance and integrity built into every asset.

Each TODA asset carries its history and rules with it. Provenance and integrity are an inherent part of the asset's lifecycle — not an add-on, not a database lookup, not a third-party attestation.

01

Create the digital asset at the source

A TODA file is created at the factory, customs warehouse, or any trusted point in the supply chain. It embeds quantity, description, issuer identity, and rules — all cryptographically signed.

02

Transfer ownership at each handoff

Each shipper, warehouse, and distributor transfers the file using TODA. The new owner is recorded in the file itself. Transfer costs pennies and settles in under 60 seconds.

Under 10 kb · peer-to-peer · no central server
03

Fragment for partial transfers

Wholesale quantities break down into retail units. A 10,000-unit file fragments into individual packages — each fragment carries the full provenance of the original. The sum always equals the original.

Fragments carry identical integrity to the original
04

Any recipient verifies instantly

End recipients drag and drop the TODA file into the free Verifier app. They see issuer, every prior owner, current owner, quantity, and data integrity — all without connectivity or database access.

Why TODA

Why isn't a database good enough?

Databases are powerful tools — but they rely on trust in a central authority. TODA makes the asset itself the source of truth, removing that dependency entirely.

🔄

Mutability

Databases enable easy updates or deletions. While useful for many applications, it's not ideal where historical data must remain unchanged for legal, auditing, or trust purposes. TODA creates immutable transaction logs, cheaply and efficiently.

🔍

Tamper Evidence

In a traditional database, altering past records can be done without a clear trail if not properly logged. TODA's cryptographic approach ensures any alteration is immediately evident — changing all subsequent records would be practically infeasible.

🌍

Public Verification

Databases can log changes, but don't provide a mechanism for third-party verification of data integrity. TODA allows anyone to verify the history of data independently, quickly, without database access — increasing security by an order of magnitude.

Scalability

For micropayments or supply chain tracking where millions of small transactions need high integrity with minimal delay, traditional databases do not scale as effectively. TODA is architected to scale to 1 million transactions per hour at negligible system cost.

Self-Sovereign Digital Objects

Achieving data sovereignty through an asset-centric approach.

TODA is an open-source data protocol, founded in 2017, that works with any digital file to create a unique asset that can be owned — and proven, without connectivity.

Provenance is inherent, not an add-on

Each asset carries its history and rules with it. Identity, prior owners, current owner, and data integrity are embedded — not stored externally.

Retain sole control over your data

How it's stored, shared, and used stays under your control. TODA uses SHA-2 for cryptographic digests and ECDSA for signing — proven standards, not proprietary lock-in.

Portable and interoperable

Move data from one service to another without losing integrity or ownership. Works across different platforms and systems without lock-in to any single provider.

Smart contracts without blockchain payments

TODA uses scripts within transactions to enforce conditions for asset transfer — multi-signature requirements, conditional payments — with no blockchain fees.

Economically efficient at any scale

Computational costs are borne by the devices making changes. Running TODA does not require constant growth in servers. Designed to scale to one million transactions per hour, for pennies.

Fake medicines kill 500,000 Africans a year. TODA is designed to stop it.

Mandatory cost ceiling — solution must stay under this

Luxury goods solve counterfeiting with physical seals, watermarks, and special packaging — effective, but cost-prohibitive for a $2 malaria tablet. TODA would create a low-cost cryptographic file that does what a Rolex box does for a $10 medicine package.

The solution must: cost under 5% of retail price, allow any buyer to verify on their own device, and function in low-connectivity environments. TODA meets all three requirements.

Logistics Integrity

Real-time records in places without connectivity.

TODA's offline-first design means assets can be created, transferred, and verified anywhere — remote forests, agricultural fields, contested supply routes, or island communities. When connectivity returns, records reconcile automatically and completely.

🌳

Remote Field Recording

Field teams operating in areas without connectivity can create verified TODA records at the point of activity — no internet required. Each record is cryptographically bound, timestamped, and immutable. When connectivity is restored, records integrate automatically — providing auditors and buyers with tamper-evident proof of exactly what occurred, where, and when.

Fuel & Supply Provenance

Track fuel and goods from origin to final recipient — fragmenting records as quantities are distributed. Every transfer is logged in the asset itself. Auditors and regulators see a complete, unfalsifiable chain of custody without needing access to a central database.

🔗

Bluetooth & Sneakernet Transfer

When no network is available, TODA transfers via Bluetooth or physical media between devices. Local relay nodes settle all transfers and sync to central systems when connectivity returns — updates measured in kilobytes, not megabytes.

Is TODA a blockchain?
No. TODA is ledgerless. Integrity rests on hash-linked cryptographic succession verified locally against the file — no distributed consensus, no mining, no gas fees, no shared ledger to synchronize.
How does verification work without a network?
The proof that an asset is authentic travels inside the asset. A recipient replays that proof locally using standard cryptographic operations — no server to query, no database lookup, no connectivity required.
What is Tusculum's relationship to TODAQ?
They are separate companies. TODA is published as an open-source protocol, and Tusculum builds on it. Tusculum Technology Corporation is a U.S. small business owned by U.S. citizens.
What cryptography is used?
SHA-2 for cryptographic digests and ECDSA for signing — proven public standards rather than proprietary schemes. Because integrity and authorization are agnostic to the signature scheme, the protocol can adopt new algorithms without architectural change.
Does Tusculum have deployed customers?
Tusculum has built working implementations of the technology and is seeking pilot partners across pharmaceutical supply chain, agricultural provenance, logistics, and field recording. The use cases described on this site are illustrative of what the protocol supports rather than deployed customer systems.
How much does a transfer cost?
Computational cost is borne by the devices making the change rather than by a network of validators, so a transfer costs a fraction of a cent and the system does not require growing server capacity as volume increases.
